Educators: Create a community post

In this guide, learn about:

You can learn more about your community space, community posts and urgent posts in Your community space.

Creating and sharing a community post

To find your community space, click the Community tab.

Click Add at the top right of the community page. The Create community post window opens.

Type your message, then click Post.

Note: Save to In progress and Post stay greyed out until you've added something to the post.

If you're not ready to share it yet, you can save it and come back to it later. See Saving a community post to finish later.

You can also create a community post from a room at your centre. Rooms have their own Community discussion space, which works in the same way as theearly childhood service's community space.

Note: An educator must be added as an educator to a room in order to create a community post from that room's community space.

There's a second way in. Click + Create in the blue menu bar at the top of any page and choose the community post option.

Note: If you're connected to multiple services and wish to select a specific service or room for your community post, please do this from the Community page within that service or room.

Messaging your community about an upcoming event or a reminder? Try including the date so family members can easily add the event to their personal calendars from the app. Find out more about the calendar feature for families.

Adding photos, video and files

The image, video and attachment icons sit just below the text field. Add what you need before you post – your files appear as thumbnails underneath, each with a small cross if you change your mind.

Read Add files to a community post to learn more.

Saving a community post to finish later

Sometimes you start a post and can't finish it. The day gets away on you, or you'd like a colleague to read it over first. You can save a community post before it's ready and come back to it whenever suits.

Save your post

While you're writing, click Save to In progress instead of Post. You'll find it between Cancel and Post at the bottom of the window.

Your post is saved, and nothing is shared with families.

Find your saved posts

📍 At the top of the community page, click In progress.

Your saved posts appear as cards, each showing the start of the post, who added it, and any photos attached.

In progress shows saved posts from everyone at your service, not only your own. To narrow it to yours, click Filter and choose Authored by me.

Who can see a post that's in progress

Educators at your service can see posts that are in progress. Families cannot see them at all until you share them.

📍 To check who that is, click the eye icon at the top right of the In progress tab, next to the sort control.

Because your team can see them, a colleague can pick up a post you started, finish it and share it – helpful when you're rostered off and a message still needs to go out.

It also means posts in progress aren't private. If you're jotting something down that isn't meant for your team to read, a child note or a conversation may suit better.

Nobody is notified when you save a post to In progress, and it won't appear in anyone's activity feed.

Share your post when it's ready

  1. click In progress at the top of the community page.

  2. click the post you want to finish. It opens straight away, ready to edit.

  3. Make your changes and click Post.

Note: In a post that's already in progress the middle button reads Save, since it's saved to In progress already. clickping Save keeps your changes and leaves the post where it is.

Once shared, your post:

  • moves out of In progress and appears under Posts

  • becomes visible to everyone in your community

  • sends the usual notifications to families and educators, exactly as it would if you'd written and shared it in one go

Note: How long a post sat in progress makes no difference to what families receive. They get the same notification either way, at the point you share it.

Making an urgent community post

Admin educators can also mark community posts as urgent, overriding a parent's notification settings.

While writing your post, tick Mark as urgent on the right, below the text field.

Everyone in the community will get an email as well as their usual notification in Storypark – even if they've turned community post emails off in their notification settings.

Remember: This overrides a parent's settings, and so we recommend reserving the function for very urgent or time-sensitive announcements.

Writing tools in community posts

Storypark Assist, our considered approach to AI add-on, brings helpful writing tools directly into your community posts. You may have writing tools, without having Storypark Assist, if your service is an independent service in Australia

If you have writing tools, you'll find them behind the A icon at the top right of the text field:

Storypark Assist is an add-on that includes AI tools in stories, child notes and community posts. Trial it for free through your account page if you're an admin at an independent service, or by contacting your Account Manager if you're a multi-site network customer.

Spelling and grammar

Click the A icon and choose the spelling and grammar option. Any suggestions appear highlighted in your text, with Accept or Discard above them.

Translation support

Click the A icon and choose Translation. Select the language you'd like your message translated into.

The translation appears highlighted in the same way, with Accept and Reject – so you can read it over before it replaces anything.

Change the tone of your message

Select from several tones that best suit your post. Click the A icon, then choose Change tone.
