Completing the reCAPTCHA check when you log in

Learn why Storypark uses reCAPTCHA, how to complete the check on the web and the app, and what to do if you get stuck.

When you log in to Storypark, you may be asked to complete a quick security check called reCAPTCHA. It’s a Google tool that helps tell real people from automated programs, so it’s one of the ways we keep your account secure. You might see it on the web and in the Storypark Families and Storypark Educators apps. This article shows you what the check looks like and what to do if you get stuck.

In this guide learn about:

What reCAPTCHA is

reCAPTCHA is a security check from Google. It helps distinguish real people from automated programs, helping keep your Storypark account secure.

You'll see a small reCAPTCHA badge on the login page. That's normal, and you don't need to do anything with it.

Complete the check

After you enter your details and tap Log in, you may be asked to complete a quick image check. The Log in button stays greyed out while the check is showing.

  1. Read the instruction at the top of the check, for example, "Select all squares with buses."

  2. Tap every square that matches the instruction.

  3. Tap Verify.

  4. You're taken into Storypark, logged in.

Can't make out the images? Tap the reload icon for a new set, or the headphones icon to hear an audio check instead.

Log in on the Storypark app

In the Storypark Families app and the Storypark Educators app, you log in on a page that opens inside the app. It's the same log in page you'd see on the web, so the reCAPTCHA check works the same way.

  1. Open the app and enter your email address.

  2. The app opens a login page. Log in as you would on the web.

  3. If you're asked to complete the check, follow the steps above.

  4. You're signed in to the app.

You need the latest version of the app to log in this way. If you're not sure how to update, see Update the Storypark app so you can keep logging in.

If the check won't load or keeps failing

Try these, one at a time:

  • Check your internet connection

  • Refresh the page and try again

  • Make sure your app is up to date

  • Make sure your browser is up to date

  • Turn off any VPN, ad blocker or content blocker, then refresh the page, as these can stop reCAPTCHA from loading

  • Try a different browser or device

If you see a message saying your password didn't work, the check isn't the problem. See Reset your password.

FAQs

Do I have to complete the check every time I log in?

Not necessarily. You may be asked to complete the check when you log in, but it doesn't show every time. If you do see it, you may need to complete more than one round of images before you can continue.

Do I see the check if I log in with single sign-on (SSO)?

No. If you log in with single sign-on (SSO), you won’t see the Storypark reCAPTCHA check. Your organisation may have added its own verification steps, so you might still be asked to verify your identity when you log in. If you’re not sure how this works for you, check with your organisation’s IT team.

To learn more about logging in with SSO, see Educators: Logging into Storypark with Single Sign-On (SSO).

Why does a login page open when I use the app?

The app opens the same login page you use on the web, so reCAPTCHA works the same way in both places. You stay in the app the whole time.

Can I complete the check without looking at the images?

Yes. Tap the headphones icon to hear an audio check instead.
