Note: The following information only applies to plans at a service. We also have help articles dedicated to portfolio planning.

What are planning categories?

Plans can be categorised to allow for easy filtering of different types and to help you organise them. The categories act just like folders.

All services start with a predefined base set of planning categories but you can edit and add your own categories. For example, you could change the predefined 'Goal' category to 'Aspirations', or you could add a completely new category called 'Parent aspiration'.

These are designed to be as flexible as possible, so you can create categories based on the type of plan, year, plan's author or however suits the way that your service does planning.

If you've set up rooms at your service, your service's category set is across all rooms (each room doesn't have its own set). So when a room adds a new category or edits an existing category, these changes are reflected across all groups.

Add a category to a plan

When creating or editing a plan, click the 'Category' link at the top of the page, then select one or more categories that you want to add to the plan.

Removing a category from a plan

To remove a category from a plan that you are editing, simply tap the arrow next to the categories, and in the dropdown menu deselect that category:

Creating a new category

1. Open the category menu, and beneath all the listed categories click '+ New'.

2. Enter the name of your new category:

3. Select a category colour.

4. Click the 'Create' button and the new category will be found in your categories list.

Editing an existing category

If you are an admin you can edit existing categories.

  1. Open the category menu.

  2. In the dropdown, click the pencil icon to the right of the category you want to edit.

  3. Edit the name or colour for the category.

  4. Click the 'Save' button.

Filtering plans by category

Categorising your plans makes it easier to find and display plans of the same type.
