What is AI-assisted drafting?
Storypark Assist includes an optional drafting tool that helps educators create an editable first draft of a learning story. It supports educators to get started more easily, while keeping them fully in control of the final story.
Think of it as a tool that meets you wherever you are in the writing process:
When you have nothing, it helps you start
When you have rough notes, it helps you shape them
When you have a draft, it helps you refine it
When you're nearly done, it helps you strengthen it
It works by asking simple, open-ended questions about a learning moment. Based only on what you've written, Storypark Assist shapes your input into a structured draft that you can review, refine, and make your own.
It can be used alongside other Storypark Assist features or on its own.
The drafting tool:
Does not publish stories automatically
Does not invent observations
Does not replace educator judgement or professional voice
Is always optional. Even when it's enabled, you can still write stories from scratch at any time
Customise your drafting settings
To get the most out of drafting with Storypark Assist, consider adjusting the settings before you start. The more personalised your settings, the more your drafts will sound like you.
Service settings (admins only)
If you're a Storypark admin, you can adjust drafting settings for all educators at your service. These apply to all stories going forward, and you can change them at any time.
Access service settings via the Service settings link at the bottom of Storypark Assist via a draft story, or from your centre's settings page.
Frameworks: curriculum and influences
Frameworks shape how Storypark Assist writes. Your curriculum sets the learning outcomes and developmental areas the draft draws on, and your influences shape the pedagogical approach, language, and framing. The more closely your frameworks reflect your practice, the more relevant every draft will be.
You can set:
Primary curriculum: your main framework. This is the main lens Storypark Assist uses when it drafts.
Additional curriculum: optional secondary frameworks. Once you've chosen a primary curriculum, you can add an additional curricula, and Storypark Assist references both primary and additional curricula when it drafts. Your primary curriculum won't appear in the additional list, so you can't pick the same one twice.
Influences: the pedagogical approaches that shape how a story reads. You can select more than one.
A few things to know:
Curricula are filtered to your service's country by default. To see every available curriculum, turn on Show all curriculum (useful if you reference a framework from another region).
The additional curriculum list remains unavailable until you've chosen a primary curriculum.
To remove a curriculum you've selected, choose None.
Nothing is selected by default, and setting up frameworks is optional. Drafts are more relevant when your frameworks match how you actually work, so it's worth doing.

AI settings
Use the Input required to view a draft dropdown to set how much an educator needs to add before a first draft is generated. Options range from light input, for educators who just need help getting started, through to rich detail, where more reflection and prompts are needed before a draft is available.
Writing preferences
Unlike service settings, each educator has their own writing preferences, and you can adjust these at any time. They shape the tone and style of your individual drafts.
Writing preferences are set per story type, so you can use different tone and style settings for Learning story, Group learning story, Magic moment, and Summary of learning. Select the story type you want to adjust, then use the sliders to match your writing style:
Formality: casual to formal
Expressiveness: reserved to expressive
Curriculum emphasis: subtle to strong
Access your writing preferences via the Writing preferences link at the bottom of Storypark Assist.
Turning off drafting
If your service is part of a multi-site organisation, contact your account manager or the support team to talk about disabling Storypark Assist drafting
If your service doesn't want to use AI-assisted drafting, an admin can turn it off at any time. This removes the Draft option from the Storypark Assist (✨) menu for all educators at the service. Other Storypark Assist features like Review and Writing Tools aren't affected.
To turn off drafting:
Go to your Service settings by tapping edit next to your service name.
Disable the story draft toggle under AI settings
Turning off drafting doesn't delete any drafts that have already been added to stories. It only stops new drafts from being started with Storypark Assist.
Starting a first draft
Before you begin:
Add the child or children the story is about. Storypark Assist needs this to tailor the draft to the right learner.
Link any relevant stories or notes you'd like to use as context. This is optional, but if you want your draft to draw on prior learning moments, add the links before you start drafting. See Using linked stories as context below for more detail.
Once the child is added and any links are in place, select the sparkle icon (✨) in the story editor toolbar, then choose Draft. The Storypark Assist panel opens alongside the editor.
Select the type of story you'd like to draft: Learning story, Magic moment, or Summary of Learning. You can also use Suggest a story type to let us know if you'd like to see another option.
From here, you'll be asked simple, open questions to draw out your observations. Answering in your own words means your professional knowledge and insight form the story content.
As you answer, the progress bar moves from Let's get started through to Almost ready, letting you know when enough detail has been captured for a first draft.
The progress to a first draft is set by your service's draft settings, which scale from light input to rich detail, and you can continue adding more information even once a draft is available.
Once a first draft is available, select View draft to read through it.
You can keep refining from here. Add detail in the Refine or add to your story box describing any changes you'd like. For example, you can ask for the story to be rewritten as a letter to the child.
When you're ready, select Add to story to place the draft into the story editor.
Once the draft is in the story editor, you can keep building on it, adding media, background colour, curriculum links, and your own observations.
Retaining the child's voice
To keep a child's own words in your story, write anything you'd like to retain in speech marks, for example, "Me play xylophone". Storypark Assist will preserve it, keeping the child's authentic voice intact.
Using linked stories as context for an individual story
When you're creating an individual child story, Storypark Assist can draw on previously linked stories and notes to help inform your draft. This reduces repetition and helps your draft feel more continuous and relevant to the child's ongoing learning journey.
In the Links section of the story editor, select Add link and choose the stories and notes you'd like to use. See Linking stories and child notes for guidance.
Select the sparkle icon (✨) and choose Draft.
Select Individual story.
If the child has linked stories or notes, Storypark Assist looks for learning journeys and related information and prompts you based on what it finds as you work through the guided questions.
For example, if the linked stories don't yet form one clear learning thread, Storypark Assist might ask whether the moment connects to something you've already been noticing, or whether it's something new you'd like to document. This helps you decide how the new story fits alongside what's already there.
Storypark Assist only reads the written text in linked stories and notes. It doesn't access, process, or send images, photos, or PDF attachments to the AI, so children's photos and visual media stay private. For the best results, link stories that contain written observations. The more detail in the text, the more useful the draft.
Storypark Assist will not read content from the following types of linked stories:
PDF attachments: if a linked story contains an uploaded PDF, Storypark Assist cannot extract text from the PDF
Image-only stories: if a linked story contains only media items like photos or videos there is no written content to draw from
In these cases, the link will still be included, but the context from those stories will not influence your draft.
Reviewing with AI
Once you have content in your story editor, you can use the Review option in the Storypark Assist menu (✨) to check your story with AI assistance before you publish.
A review returns friendly, pedagogically framed suggestions, organised into sections such as Reflect on the learning and Future opportunities and possibilities. These help you spot places to enrich or extend before you publish.
Give feedback on each suggestion with the thumbs up or thumbs down, or share more detail with the speech bubble.
Discarding a draft
To discard a draft, select the close (X) in the Storypark Assist panel. You'll be asked to confirm.
Once you discard a draft, the draft and the conversation can't be retrieved. Draft content also can't be reopened in the Storypark Assist panel in a later session, so if you want to keep your work, select Add to story before you close the panel.

Storypark Assist is shaped by your feedback, so let us know what you think and we'll keep improving it.
To give feedback on a first draft, use the thumbs up or thumbs down in the Storypark Assist panel. For more detail, select the speech bubble. You can also email our customer support team.
FAQs
Can I select more than one curriculum?
Yes. You can choose a primary curriculum and, if it helps, add an additional curriculum. When Storypark Assist drafts a story, it references both, building the draft primarily around your primary curriculum and weaving in the additional one where it's relevant.
Can I select more than one influence?
Yes. Influences are now multi-select, so you can reflect more than one pedagogical approach at once. Storypark Assist blends them into a single, coherent voice rather than treating each as a separate lens.
Do I have to set up curriculum and influences?
No. Setting up frameworks is optional, and nothing is selected by default. Your drafts will still work without them, but they're more relevant to your practice when your frameworks are set up, so it's worth doing.
Why can't I see a curriculum I expected?
Curricula are filtered to your service's country by default. If you're looking for a framework from another region, turn on Show all curriculum to see the full list. Still can't find it? Use Suggest a framework to let us know.
