What is draft with AI?
Draft with AI is an optional, add-on tool that supports educators to create an editable first draft of a learning story through guided reflection. It supports educators to get started more easily, while keeping them fully in control of the final story.
It works by asking simple, open-ended questions about a learning moment. Based only on what the educator has written, draft with AI shapes this input into a structured draft that can be reviewed, refined, and added to.
It can be used in conjunction with other Storypark AI tools or alone.
Draft with AI:
• Does not publish stories automatically
• Does not invent observations
• Does not replace educator judgement or professional voice
• Is always optional - even if enabled, educators can still write stories from scratch at any time.
Note: This feature is currently available in early access to services with the Storypark AI add-on, it is still evolving and may change based on feedback.
Customise draft with AI
To reflect your unique approach to documentation, consider adjusting the draft with AI settings.
Service settings
If you're a Storypark admin, you can adjust draft with AI service settings for all educators.
This will apply to all stories created using draft with AI going forward but can be adjusted from this panel at any time.
Frameworks - Align all stories started with draft with AI with a particular curriculum, and influence or theory.
Depending on each educator's individual settings this may range from light framing to rich curriculum integration.
From the drop-down menu, click on a curriculum and then save to confirm your selection:
Curricula are in a scrollable list ordered alphabetically by region. No curriculum or influence is selected by default (and can remain this way if you choose) and only one curriculum and one influence each can be selected at this time.
Don't see the curriculum or influence you're after? Let us know by suggesting a framework:
AI settings - Customise the level of input and detail required of educators for Draft with AI to generate their first draft.
From the drop-down menu, click on a setting and then save to confirm your selection:
Rich detail will require you to reflect and respond to more prompts, whereas light input may be more suitable for those who only require help getting started.
Writing preferences
Unlike service settings, each educator has access to their own, personal writing preferences which they can adjust at any time.
These are available to adjust the writing style of each story type.
To match your drafts to your writing style, adjust the sliders on these preferences:
Formality: From conversational to a formal, academic tone
Expressiveness: From a matter of fact tone to enthusiastic, emotive language
Curriculum emphasis: From light framing to rich curriculum integration
These can be adjusted at any time if you'd like the tone of drafts to change.
Don't see the control you're after? Let us know by suggesting a control:
Start a first draft
Within the story editor, select the pencil icon to get started:
Select the type of story you'd like to draft:
From here, you'll be asked simple, open questions to draw out your observations relevant to the story type and any settings you've applied to customise your experience:
Responding in your own words, means your professional knowledge and insight form the story content.
As you answer the guiding questions, the green progress bar lets you know when enough detail has been captured for a first draft to be generated from your words:
Note: The progress to 'first draft' is determined by your service's draft settings - which scale from light input to rich detail required.
Once a first draft is available, select View draft to take a moment to read through it, and review:
Once you've viewed your first draft in the panel, you can continue to refine or add to the story. Simply add further detail in the chatbox on the changes you'd like to make. For example, you can ask for the story to be rewritten like a letter to the child.
When you're ready to finish up with draft with AI, select Add story to add the draft into the story editor:
Once the draft is within the story editor, you can continue to expand any details further. This includes adding media, background colour and curriculum links to bring the story to life.
Discard a draft
Currently, as you create a first draft using draft with AI, you need to keep the right-hand panel open. Draft story content cannot be opened in the right-hand panel in a later session.
To discard a draft while using draft with AI, select the X button at the top right-hand corner:
You'll then need to confirm that draft and chat will be discarded and cannot be retrieved:
Giving feedback
The draft with AI tooling is shaped by your feedback - let us know your thoughts so that we can continue to improve this feature and Storypark AI to work the way that suits you and your team best.
To give feedback on a first draft, you can use the thumbs up or down, or if you'd like to give more detailed feedback on the tools, select the speech bubble:
Alternatively you can also email our customer support team.
