In this guide, learn about:

Linking allows you to connect related stories and child notes so that learning over time is easier to follow.

For example, you might:

  • Link a story to a learning goal recorded in a child note

  • Link multiple stories together that show progression

  • Connect documentation that relates to the same learning focus

Link stories and notes from a story

When writing an individual child story, you can link it to other stories or child notes for that child.

Important

You must select a child first before linking becomes available.

This ensures that only stories and notes for that child are shown.

To add a link while writing a story

  1. Start a new individual child story

  2. Select the child the story is about

  3. Click Add link

  4. Choose the story or child note you want to link

  5. Select the item to add it to your story

The linked item will appear in the story’s Links section.

What items can be linked

When linking from a story, you can select:

  • Stories for that child

  • Child notes for that child

Only documentation related to the selected child will appear in the list.

Link stories together

You can connect stories that relate to the same learning experience or theme.

For example:

  • A follow-up learning experience

  • Continued exploration of an interest

  • Progress toward a learning goal

This helps create a clearer picture of learning over time.

When linking appears in the other story

If you link one story to another:

  • The link appears immediately in the story you are editing

  • The connection will also appear in the other story after your story is published

This ensures links are created consistently between stories.

Editing or removing links

Links can be edited or removed while editing a story.

To change links:

  1. Open the story

  2. Click Edit

  3. Add or remove links as needed.

Links cannot be changed from the read-only view of a published story.

Using linking on mobile

Linking stories and notes is currently available when creating or editing stories on web.

You can still view linked items on mobile after a story has been published, but creating or editing links is not yet supported in the mobile app.

Support for linking on mobile will be added in a future update.

Tips for using linking

Linking works well when connecting related documentation, such as:

  • A learning goal in a child note and the stories showing progress toward it

  • Several stories documenting the same learning focus

  • Stories that build on each other over time

Important notes

  • Linking is available for individual child stories.

  • A child must be selected before linking becomes available.

  • Only stories and notes for that child will appear in the linking list.

  • Links do not change who can see the content.

Creating and editing links is currently supported on web only.
