Educators: When a parent deletes their child from Storypark

A fundamental aspect of Storypark is that parents have control of their child’s online portfolio. Parents have free access to their child’s Storypark profile for as long as they want, and they can continue to access and add content to the profile even after their child has left your learning service and been archived from your Children page.

Should they choose to, they also have the option to delete their child’s profile at any time, which means all of the child's stories and notes are removed from Storypark permanently.


The difference between archiving and deleting

When a child leaves your learning service, you can archive them to make room for another child space on your plan. The child will now appear on your Archived children page, and their stories can be exported for your records at any time.

When a parent chooses to delete their child's profile (either a child that still attends or has left your service), the profile will be completely deleted and you will not have access to their profile or stories any more. The child will also be removed from any plans that they've been added to.


What happens when a parent deletes a child?

When a parent deletes their child, admins at your service will receive an email to let them know they have seven days to export and download a copy of that child’s portfolio, along with a link to activate the export.

Once they've exported and downloaded a copy of the portfolio to a hard drive, the service can retain it for regulatory purposes.

After 90 days pass, all content will be deleted and will not be able to be recovered.

If a child is accidentally deleted

Should you receive a notification for a child at your service but the parent has done this accidentally, you should contact the Storypark Customre Success team as soon as possible. You can email us at hello@storypark.com and confirm:

  • the name and date of birth of the child

  • the approximate date their profile was deleted

  • the email address of the parent for that child

If possible, please also copy the parent into the email, and ask that they confirm that they would like the child profile to be restored back to your service.
