Data & Privacy
What data does Storypark AI use?
Storypark collects metadata internally to understand feature usage and improve functionality (e.g. how frequently an AI feature is accessed). This metadata is not shared with our AI partners.
When educators use AI-powered features (like grammar checks), their input (only the text and title) is securely sent to our AI partners to generate responses. We do not send images, videos, PDF documents, comments, and which children are included. Our AI partners delete the data after processing and do not use it to train or improve their models.
Is customer data used for training?
No, Storypark’s customer data is never used to train AI models.
What kind of AI is used by Storypark’s partners?
Storypark’s AI features leverage foundational large language models (LLMs) provided by OpenAI and Anthropic. These LLMs are machine learning models that use deep learning algorithms to understand and generate natural language.
LLMs are trained on vast amounts of publicly available text data to identify patterns, understand relationships, and generate coherent responses. They can perform a range of language-based tasks, such as:
Providing grammar and editing suggestions
Analysing text to offer pedagogical feedback
These models are pre-trained and do not learn from Storypark customer data. Any content you generate using Storypark AI remains private and secure.
Important: While LLMs are powerful tools, they have limitations. They may sometimes generate inaccurate or incomplete information. Because LLMs are trained on human-generated data, we recommend you should review all AI-generated suggestions and content to ensure accuracy and relevance.

How long is customer data retained for AI processing?
Data sent to AI partners is only retained for as long as necessary to complete the query. To identify and prevent abuse, partners may temporarily store data for up to 30 days before deletion, unless a longer retention period is required by law.
Storypark collects metadata internally to understand feature usage and improve functionality (e.g. how frequently an AI feature is accessed). This metadata is not shared with our AI partners.
How does Storypark ensure AI features don’t expose sensitive information?
We only share essential information with our AI subprocessors, ensuring they handle only what’s necessary for each request. This approach significantly reduces the risk of exposing any unnecessary data.
Every user's interaction with our AI is fully isolated from other users. This strict separation of requests keeps your information securely compartmentalised.
Before release, new AI features undergo thorough testing, including:
Internal testing by Storypark’s Product and Engineering teams
Testing across Storypark staff including Pedagogical Consultants
Beta releases with customers for early feedback and improvement
How will Storypark AI continue to learn and develop after it has been launched?
Our team, including pedagogical consultants, will review and guide the AI’s development to keep it relevant and useful for educators. Over time, we plan to enhance the AI by incorporating more helpful reference materials and best practices. We’re also exploring ways to personalise the AI with information relevant to each child’s learning journey; however, any steps in this direction will be taken cautiously, with consultation from customers. Our commitment is to develop AI features responsibly and to listen closely to customer feedback along the way.
Where will Storypark AI draw its learning from? Will it learn from all educators in an organisation or from our global network of customers?
Currently, Storypark AI’s improvements come from two main sources. First, Storypark analyses customer feedback to refine how the AI interprets instructions, ensuring responses stay relevant and helpful. Additionally, updates from newer AI models may enhance the AI's understanding of instructions, allowing for broader improvements in functionality. Importantly, user inputs are not used to train the AI models. The AI's foundational models remain based on publicly available data.

We encourage you to share feedback, as each report is carefully reviewed by our team, and necessary changes are implemented to improve AI performance and accuracy while maintaining high privacy standards.
Data Flow
Storypark AI features follow this data flow process:
Input: The data flow begins when a user initiates an AI feature, such as requesting a grammar check or generating pedagogical feedback.
Secure data transmission: The input is transmitted securely to Storypark’s AI partners, such as OpenAI and Anthropic, over an encrypted channel. For grammar and translation requests, TipTap acts as a sub-processor, handling the content before it reaches the primary language model. TipTap does not store customer data; it simply processes and passes it through for the specific task.
Response Generation: Our AI partners generate a response and transmit it back securely to Storypark. Customer data is deleted upon query completion (see here for more detail), and partners do not use this data to train or improve their models.
Output response: When AI-generated content is returned, customers maintain full control over the output. They can review, edit, accept, or discard the response to ensure it aligns with their needs. Customers can also provide feedback on AI-generated outputs through in-product mechanisms, helping Storypark improve the relevance and quality of future insights and recommendations.
